Roaming charges to be removed in EU starting June 15
The European Parliament (EP) took the last step in removing roaming tariffs, after the vote in plenary from yesterday, according to the official news portal of the European Parliament.
The EP removed yesterday the price cap on wholesale sales (the capping of tariffs between operators) by supporting an informal agreement already approved by the Council. The roaming charges will thus be removed from June 15.
This will allow users to call, send text messages, and use mobile data in all EU member states at the same costs as in their home countries.
“This is a big victory for European consumers,” said Finnish MEP Miapetra Kumpula-Natri. “We can now celebrate the fact that there will be no more roaming tariffs starting June 15.”
