Romania, 4th place in EU for increase in retail trade
Slovenia, Luxembourg, Lithuania and Romania recorded the highest increases in retail trade in the European Union in February, compared to the same period last year.
Romania saw an annual increase of 7.5%, according to the European Statistical Office (Eurostat). It was exceeded by Slovenia (16.8%), Luxembourg (12.9%), Lithuania (7.6%).
The only annual decreases in retail trade in the EU were recorded in Belgium (minus 3.2%), Malta (minus 0.9%), and Denmark (minus 0.2%) in February. In the euro area, retail trade increased by 1.8% at an annual rate, while the European Union registered an advance of 2.2%.
The sales of non-food goods increased by 3.4% year-on-year whereas the sales of fuel went up by 1% year-on-year. The sales of food, beverages and tobacco increased by 0.9% year-on-year.
