Romania to send aircraft to help Greece battle deadly wildfires
Romania is ready to send two aircraft to Greece to help the country battle the deadly wildfires, Mihai Fifor, the defense minister, told Digi24.
One aircraft is a C-27 J Spartan, configured to work on putting out fires, and the second a C-130 Hercules, to be used for logistic support. The Defense Ministry is sending them within the EU’s Civil Protection Mechanism.
“We are talking about an aircraft specializing in putting out fires, about a Hercules aircraft for logistic support, about 20 soldiers who work on these aircraft,” minister Fifor explained.
More than 70 people died and almost 200 were injured since the wildfires erupted on Monday afternoon east of Athens.
