Romania, among EU states with lowest annual inflation rates
Ireland (0 2%), Romania (0.3%), and Bulgaria (0.4%) registered the lowest annual inflation rates in the EU in January, according to data released yesterday by the European Statistical Office (Eurostat).
In the European Union, the average annual inflation rate rose to 1.7% in January whereas in the Eurozone it reached 1.8%. The highest annual inflation rates were registered last month in Belgium (3.1%), Latvia and Spain (both with an annual inflation rates of 2.9%), and Estonia (2.8%).
Compared to December 2016, annual inflation fell in two states and rose in 26 states, including Romania.
Last month, Romania’s National Bank governor Mugur Isarescu said that the annual inflation rate would return to positive territory in the first quarter of 2017.
