Romania can now export pork to China. The country recently received an official letter from China announcing that S.C. Smithfield Romania SA registered in China as the first Romanian pork meat producer.

The Government has been trying to start pork exports to China since 2012, as this is a crucial market, said Agriculture Minister Daniel Constantin, cited by local Capital.ro.

In June 2014, the two countries signed a memorandum on animal health and food safety.

Romanian agriculture minister Daniel Constantin and Chinese Agriculture Minister Han Changfu signed the document, during the Chinese official’s visit to Romania.
