Romania cuts greenhouse gas emissions by half
Romania has managed to cut greenhouse gas emissions by half, in the past years, but the global climatic changes continue to affect us by extremely high temperatures, said Romania’s Minister of Environment Gratiela Gavrilescu in a press conference.
She pointed out that without the European Union’s policies aimed at curbing pollution, the pressure on the environment would be devastating, both on ecosystems and people’s health.
“Romania, as a member state, is rallied to all these policies. Our country’s results have been validated by the European Environment Agency’s report. We have managed to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by half, and to diminish the harmful effects of other atmospheric pollutants: the sulfur dioxide went down by 48%, and the NOx decreased by 30%,” Gavrilescu stated, cited by local Agerpres.
She added that the Government supported local authorities to implement air quality plans to reduce air pollution.
