Romania exports 11% of its electricity production in January-April
The net electricity exports in Romania reached 2.2TWh, or 11% of its gross production (20.85TWh) in January-April, according to the statistics office INS. In the same period of 2022, the country imported the equivalent of 3% of its gross production.
This radical change was possible in part because Romania’s final electricity consumption contracted by 7.7% y/y to 16.64TWh, while the gross output rose by 7% y/y to 20.85TWh in the first four months of this year.
Some 5.4% less electricity was used in the economy.
On the production side, Hidroelectrica and the other hydropower companies generated 6.82TWh, or 45% more electricity compared to the same period last year. The wind farms generated 3.15TWh of electricity in the four months – more than ¾ of the energy generated by the two nuclear reactors (4.0TWh).
