Romania, EU to blacklist land owners which are not “active farmers”

24 July 2014

The Romanian government will create a “black list” of land owners which are not “active farmers”, which will also include religious institutions such as parishes, as well as foreign companies.

This black list will be sent to the European Commission and will include individuals and companies, banks, credit unions, non-bank financial institutions, insurance companies, stock of goods, road transport services, construction companies, or institutions such as the National Company of Motorways and National Roads, reports local Mediafax. Those on the black list will no longer benefit from EU funding.

Agriculture Minister Daniel Constantin said that these provisions will be part of the options that Romania will send to the European Commission by August 1, on the application of direct payments from 2015 to 2020.
