Romania exported beverages and tobacco worth some EUR 157.2 million in the first quarter of 2014, according to data from the National Statistics Institute INS, cited by local Capital. This year’s figure is with EUR 25.8 million higher than the one reported in the same period in 2013.

The imports of beverages and tobacco stood at some EUR 100 million in the first three months of this year, with EUR 3.6 million over the level recorded in the first quarter of the previous year.

A total of 18,600 people were working in the beverage manufacturing sector at the end of April, the average net salary being of some RON 2,000 (over EUR 450). Also, 1,600 people were working in the tobacco manufacturing sector, where the average net salary is of RON 3,583 (some EUR 814).
