Romania fails to qualify for Eurovision final
Romania did not qualify for the final of the Eurovision Song Contest 2023. Theodor Andrei, with his song "D.G.T. (Off and on)," did not manage to pass the second semifinal of the music competition, held on Thursday evening in Liverpool, UK.
The ten countries that qualified for the Eurovision 2023 final, following their performances in the second semifinal, are Albania, Cyprus, Estonia, Belgium, Austria, Lithuania, Poland, Australia, Armenia, and Slovenia.
Theodor Andrei took to the stage third on Thursday evening, with his song "D.G.T. (Off and on)."
According to predictions made by BBC, Romania did not have a great chance of making it past the second semifinal and qualifying for the Eurovision 2023 final, according to Hotnews.
"Conceptually, the song describes a toxic relationship and the struggle to choose between passion and self-preservation. Andrei, who's just 18, inhabits the psychodrama, sounding alternately doleful and sleazy and remorseful and angry. But when he sings lines like, ‘I'm begging you, take off your clothes and step on me,’ it's genuinely upsetting,” was BBC's verdict.
The first ten finalists, including Moldova, were decided in the first semifinal, which took place on May 9.
Romania's best performances at Eurovision were in 2005, 2010, and 2006, when its representatives got two third places and one fourth place.
