Romania, first in Europe for transplants

14 October 2014

Romania ranks first in Europe when it comes to increasing the percentage of transplants, for both the number of performed transplants and the number of donors, according to the Romanian Minister of Health Nicolae Banicioiu.

“We maintain the same line as last year and we want to revitalize the heart transplant activity and to perform the first lung transplant in Romania in 2015,” he added.

Romania’s progress in terms of transplants was also revealed in a study conducted by the European Commission between 2007 and 2013, which follows the Member States’ progress in this area. Romania holds the second position when it comes to the development of transplant procedures and the increasing number of donors, after Luxembourg.
