Romania may make it cheaper for companies to hire foreign workers

27 April 2018

Companies in Romania hiring foreign workers may not be obliged to pay them a wage at least equal to the average gross salary in the country as the Finance Ministry and EU Funds Ministry want to remove this restriction.

Such a restriction does not exist in the European Union, according to an official within the EU funds ministry.

The labor legislation may be amended as to remove this provision that forces local employers to pay at least the average gross wage to foreign workers they hire, said Dan-Octav Paxino, a state secretary within the EU Funds Ministry, cited by local Digi24. The Finance Ministry may announce this measure in the next period, he added.

This would make it more affordable for local companies to hire foreign workers.
