Romania has EUR 1.2 bln for European Interconnection transport infrastructure
Romania can submit up to EUR 1.2 billion worth of projects for transport interconnection within the European Commission’s Europe Interconnection Mechanism project by 2016, according to EurActiv.ro.
For the whole Europe, the budget is of EUR 11.9 billion. Romania however has to choose from a pre-defined list of local transport infrastructure projects, most of which focusing on railway and port infrastructure. Meanwhile, roads are covered by structural funds.
All the projects submitted by Romania have to fall within the nine transport corridors established by the European Commission. Romania’s list includes Arad -Brasov -Bucharest- Constanta railway track modernization, the Giurgiu & Galati ports, the Bucharest – Danube navigable channel, among others.
