The United Nations (UN) Committee on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights showed that Romania is the country with the highest number of births among teenage girls under 15 years and with a maternal mortality rate in Romania two times higher than the EU average, and urged the country to review its laws by ensuring access to sexual health care and to adopt a national strategy in the field.

The UN Committee showed that Romania should introduce a compulsory program on sex education in schools to reduce the number of pregnancies among teens, reports local Hotnews.ro.

The UN Committee emphasized that Romania has lagged behind other Member States on the promotion of sexual and reproductive rights among adolescents and women.
