Romania’s industry grows by 8.5% in January
Romania’s industry, which accounts for a quarter of the country’s gross domestic product (GDP), accelerated its annual growth in January 2018 compared to December 2017.
The industrial production volume went up by 8.5% in January versus the same month of last year, up from a growth rate of 7.9% in December.
The manufacturing industry increased its production by 12.7% compared to January 2017 while the mining industry went up by 5.9%. However, the energy industry declined by 7.4% in the first month of this year.
In 2017, the local industrial production was 8.2% higher than in 2016.
The turnover in the local industry went up even faster in January, recording a 20.7% increase over January 2017. This was also due to a 3.7% increase in industrial production prices in January 2018 versus January 2017.
