Marin Preda was a Romanian novelist, one of the best known post World War II writers. Born in a peasants family, he came to Bucharest and worked as a journalist.
His most famous novel, Morometii, which was awarded the State Literature Prize in 1956, is rooted in the peasant life and inspired from his own life in the countryside, in Teleorman county.
Another one of his famous writings was Cel mai iubit dintre pământeni ("The Most Beloved Earthling"), which was regarded as a violent critique of communism.
Marin Preda was born in 1922 and died in 1980.
