Romania - presidential elections: 49% turnout two hours before closing
Almost 8.94 million Romanians have cast their vote in the first round of the presidential elections on Sunday, November 2, until 19:00, according to preliminary data from the Central Electoral Bureau (BEC), quoted by Hotnews.ro
This stands for a 49% turnout, of the 18.3 million Romanians who have the right to vote.
The voting closes at 21:00 when the first exit poll results will also be made public.
Some unofficial exit poll results have already been announced on the internet, the data coming from political parties. These unofficial results place current Prime Minister Victor Ponta in front, with about 40% of the votes, followed by Sibiu’s mayor Klaus Iohannis, with some 30%, while the other candidates are far behind, according to Mediafax newswire.
