Romania records deficit in trade with food products
Romania recorded a deficit in the trade with food products after the first three quarters of 2016.
The exports advanced only by 2.7% compared to the same period in 2015, reaching EUR 4.32 billion, whereas imports totaled EUR 4.57 billion, up 9.3% year-on-year, according to data from the Agriculture Ministry, cited by local Agerpres.
The trade deficit with food products thus amounted to EUR 254 million. During the same period last year, Romania recorded a small surplus, namely EUR 22.83 million.
Romania imported over 5.9 million tons of food products and exported over 12 million tons in the first nine months of this year. The highest imports, in terms of value, were pork meat imports, which totaled EUR 241 million. They were followed by pastry, bakery, and biscuits – EUR 177 million. Wheat and meslin ranked third with imports totalling EUR 171 million.
As for the exports, Romania continues to have the highest revenues from selling grains. Wheat and meslin ranked first, with EUR 863 million worth of exports.
