Romania makes new try to renovate historical seaside casino
The historical Casino building in the Romanian seaside city of Constanta will undergo renovation and consolidation worth EUR 7 million.
The National Investments Company has restarted the tender and awaits design and renovation offers by June 27. The deadline to finalize the renovation is within 7 years, according to local Economica.net.
This is not the first attempt to renovate the building, which has been laying derelict for years. Back in 2015, the Development Ministry and the National Investments Company which it coordinates promised they would renovate it in two years.
A tender started in 2015 but was canceled after one of the bidders filed an appeal. The Constanta Casino has been closed for the last 8 years, and the last time it underwent any sort of work was in 1987, when a painter painted its walls in art nouveau style.
The casino, which is emblematic for the city of Constanta as is it located on the city’s pier, was built in 1909, during the reign of King Carol I.
