Romania to reopen Embassy in Kyiv

20 April 2022

The Romanian authorities plan to reopen the country’s Embassy in Kyiv, Ukraine, “as soon as possible,” minister of foreign affairs Bogdan Aurescu announced in a post on Twitter.

“The Romanian authorities have decided to reopen the Embassy of Romania in Ukraine, in Kyiv. The activity of the Embassy will be resumed on the ground as soon as possible, after the necessary technical and security preparations will be finalized,” reads the Romanian minister’s message.

Romania decided to suspend the activity of its Embassy in Kyiv on February 26, not long after Russia launched the large-scale invasion of Ukraine, Digi24 reported. The Romanian Ministry of Foreign Affairs issued a press release at that time, announcing the successful repatriation of the embassy staff to Romania.

Several other countries have reestablished a diplomatic presence in Kyiv. Among them France, Italy, Turkey, and Slovenia, according to a recent Facebook post of Ukraine’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
