Romania sends pâté and water from its strategic stash to flood victims
Romania has withdrawn three tons of pâté and water from its State Reserves, the country’s secret stash for emergencies, to help 1,500 people affected by flooding in the Mehedinti county, in South – West Romania. Central authorities will also send 100 mattresses, 100 blankets, and 200 bed sets off the State Reserves to the flood victims.
Food will be helicoptered in the areas, while the rest of the products will be transposed by trucks. Nobody is isolated anymore in the villages affected by flooding, and traffic on the DN6 road re-started on both ways. The area is being serviced by 600 troops from the Romanian Interior Ministry, Romanian Waters employees and local authorities.
The State Reserves are managed by the Romanian Interior Ministry, and include stashes of food products, textiles, first aid products, construction materials, oil and gas. Every year, the State Reserves administration organizes bids to buy such products, and often also organizes auctions to sell off products which approach their expiration date.
In 2014, the State Reserves sent products to people affected by snow in January, to those affected by flooding in May and July, and then in September. In May 2014, it also sent some humanitarian aid to Serbia, Bosnia and Herzegovina,
