Romania surpasses Hungary, Czech Rep. as outsourcing destination

05 October 2016

Romania has become a preferred destination for the outsourcing companies, currently hosting over 100,000 of the total number of 600,000 employees in the industry in Central and Eastern Europe, according to Colliers International.

Romania currently ranks 13th, up five positions compared to 2015, in the Global Services Location ranking. It is above Hungary, which ranks 32th, the Czech Republic (26th), and Ukraine (24th). Poland ranks 10th.

International consultancy firm A.T. Kearney makes this ranking taking into consideration factors such as costs, quality of the work force, and the general business climate.

The outsourcing industry has also boosted the local real estate sector in recent years, contributing to new office projects being developed in Bucharest and other cities. In Romania’s big secondary cities, such as Timisoara, Cluj-Napoca, Iasi, and Brasov, several office projects are under construction, totaling a surface of about 200,000 sqm. They will be delivered on the market in the next 18-24 months.

Other cities with universities, which can provide trained workforce are now targeted by outsourcing firms. These include Craiova, Oradea, Targu Mures, Bacau, and Galati.
