Romania to ask IMF’s OK for smaller number of layoffs at CFR Marfa
Romania will ask the International Monetary Fund (IMF) for an exception in the financial agreement signed, so as to salvage 1,100 jobs at CFR Marfa railway freight company, instead of sacking 2,500, as previously agreed.
The Transport Minister made the announcement last weekend, after CFR Marfa’s sales and turnover went up, and as the company is close to three important bids. Romania will talk to the IMF in June about this, showing the new numbers at CFR Marfa and trying to limit the number of layoffs.
