Romania to sell minority package in Nuclearelectrica on the stock market in May

17 April 2013

After recently finalizing the secondary public offering for the state – owned Transgaz, the Romanian government wants to sell a 10 percent share package in another state company, Nuclearelectrica. The sale will happen after May 15, according to the Minister Delegate for Energy, Constantin Niţă.

“It is the first time in recent years when we have actually lived up to international agreements. We promised we'd do the secondary listing for Transgaz in April and we did. We promised to list Nuclearelectrica in May, and we will,” said Niţă. The consortium comprising SSIF Swiss Capital and BT Securities won the tender to broker the listing on the Bucharest Stock exchange.

Nuclearelectrica runs the Cernavoda nuclear power plant, which produces around 20 percent of Romania's energy.

Romania recently raised EUR 72 million by selling a 15 percent share package in Transgaz via a secondary public offering. The country also pledged to sell 10 percent of Hidroelectrica after it exits insolvency, as well as 10 percent in Romgaz, in October at the latest.
