Romania tries to break world record with largest flag in the world, covering seven hectares

27 May 2013

Romania will attempt to break yet another world record by placing its flag over seven hectares on the Clinceni aerodrome. This would be the largest flag in the world, and the event was initiated by TV station Antena 3 together with FabricadeSteaguri. The event will be filmed from the sky and will include a flying show from Romania's Hawks aerobatics team. The TV station Antena 3 will set up a studio 50 meters above the ground, using the Dinner in Sky concept.

In order to keep the flag on the ground, 2,000 sand bags in the same colors as Romania's flag were used. It took 200 people to maneuver the huge flag, weighing five tonnes, into place and unfold it. The event is currently still taking place on the Clinceni aerodrome near Bucharest (Monday, May 27).

A team from Guinnes World Records will authenticate the record. The flag is 330 meters long, and 220 meters wide.
