The Romanian government, at the request of some categories of employees in the budgetary sector (public healthcare, police), increased by an order passed on June 8 their wages in line with the wage increase calendar at the level of the year 2022.

The impact of the wage hikes, including the wage hike approved previously for teachers, is estimated at RON 4 bln (EUR 800 mln) for this year alone, according to finance minister Adrian Caciu, who announced the measures endorsed by the government, Cursdeguvernare.ro reported.

The wage hike in the education system, where the wages were already in line with the 2022 target, will cost the budget RON 2.1 bln this year, government officials estimated previously.

Minister Caciu again expressed concerns related to the budget revenues, which were already nearly RON8.9bn below target after four months and risk lagging significantly more below the full-year target.
