Romania uses less electricity in first two months, but produces and exports more
Romania's electricity consumption was down 0.3 percent in the first two months of the year, compared to the same period of 2012. Public lighting energy consumption had the biggest drop – 22 percent, while individual consumers used 3.4 percent less energy during this period, according to statistics.
Romania managed to up its energy production during this period by some 6 percent, leading to 5.4 percent higher resources, to some 11 billion KWh. Thermal power plants produced around half of this quantity, 5.7 billion KWh – an increase of 5.2 percent, while hydropowerplants contributed with 2.3 billion KWh, a growth of 17.8 percent on the first two months of 2013.
Nuclear power plants produced 2 billion KWh, almost flat on last year's first two months, while wind farms, 800 million KWh, a slight drop. Solar energy stood at 42.2 KWh, a considerable growth, up 37.2 million KWh on the same period of 2013.
Romania exported 885 million KWh during the first two months, 671 million KWh more than in January and February 2013.
