Romania wants higher trade with Egypt

27 April 2015

Romania aims to increase trade with Egypt to USD 1 billion in 2015, the Romanian ambassador to Cairo Cornel Alecse said on Saturday, April 25.

Egypt's exports to Romania had a 50% increase in 2014, Alecse said. He pointed out to considerable diversity in exports and imports between the two countries which include food commodities, grains, vegetables, clothes, chemicals, tires, and furniture.

The ambassador asserted that there were significant opportunities for bilateral cooperation between Cairo and Bucharest, in medical tourism, infrastructure, grains, construction, energy, river and land transport, and railway, reports Zawya.com.

Egypt, which is one of the world’s largest wheat importers, bought over 1.9 million tons of Romanian wheat from July 2013 until June 2014, which stands for 40% of Romania’s total wheat exports in the same period.

In 2013, Romania exported products worth USD 617 million to Egypt, while Egypt’s exports to Romania stood at USD 68 million.
