Romanian anticorruption prosecutors seize Constanta Mayor’s property
The anticorruption prosecutors from the DNA have ordered the seizure of all of Constanta Mayor Radu Mazare’s properties. They have blocked his accounts and have taken his house and car collection.
Radu Mazare created a damage of EUR 9 million, according to the DNA prosecutors. Mazare challenged the asset seizure, reports local Capital.ro.
According to his latest wealth statement, Mazare also owns a plot in Madagascar, which he leased together with one of his brothers, an apartment in Bucharest, a boat, almost EUR 300,000 cash, shares in several companies and a EUR 600,000 loan to an individual.
Radu Mazare was arrested for 30 days in early-April this year. He allegedly took EUR 9 million from private companies to help them get authorizations and win bids.
Mazare has been mayor of Constanta for almost 15 year. He was first elected in 2000 and then got reelected three times with a large majority of the votes.
