Romanian Army buys 173 trucks from Iveco for EUR 27 mln
Romania’s Defense Ministry will buy 173 military trucks from Italian group Iveco Defence vehicles for some RON 128 million (EUR 27.5 million), according to an announcement in the electronic public procurement system SEAP.
The auction for buying a significant number of new military trucks for troop transport was launched in August 2017, after a military truck plunged into a ravine killing 3 soldiers. The truck apparently had technical problems, the investigation carried out after the accident showed.
The delivery of the new Iveco military trucks should take place within 11 months after the contract is signed.
The Defense Ministry also analyzed the possibility to buy trucks produced at local plant Roman Brasov, but there were uncertainties related to the factory’s capacity to build these trucks in due time, according to defense minister Mihai Fifor.
