Romanian arrested in high level luxury prostitution case
Andreea Marta, the wife of former Tax Administration head's chief of cabinet Codrut Marta was arrested for 29 days, having been accused of prostituting Romanian women. This came after her husband went missing amid corruption case in May this year.
According to prosecutors, Marta's wife recruited and sent young Romanian women as escorts for various clients, including public figures and businessmen from Romania. The girls were sometimes sent on trips to Italy, Switzerland and Monaco with the aid of 28-year old Andreea Marta, where they escorted the businessmen on their holidays. Clients had been paying Marta thousands of euros for a night spent with the Romanian girls, according to prosecutors, quoted by the Romanian media.
Marta and her sister created the luxury prostitution ring in 2010, when they started recruiting young Romanians, mostly at different modeling competitions in Romania.
Codrut Marta, who went missing in May, was accused by anti-corruption prosecutors of involvement in illegal dealings with oil products, having caused EUR 15 million damage to the state. Prosecutors issued a bench warrant for Marta.
