Romanian authorities want to simplify visa regime for foreign workers

05 October 2016

The Romanian authorities are currently working to simplify the visa regime for foreign workers, according to labor minister Dragos Pislaru. Moreover, this measure may be taken before the Parliamentary elections.

“There are things that we can do. We need to simplify the visa regime first. It takes up to six months for a foreigner to come to work in Romania,” the minister said, reports local Agerpres.

The Labor Ministry is already working with the Foreign Ministry on this project.

“There is progress, although not as fast as I would have wanted it, but at least there is a minimal comfort to know that we are working on it,” the minister added.

On one hand, the project targets the duration of the visa issuing procedures, and on the other hand, some special procedures for communities that are nearby: Bucovina for Moldova, or Serbia for the west part of the country.

Several Ministries have to work together for this project, the key ones being the Foreign Ministry and the Economy Ministry, Dragos Pislaru also said.
