Romanian becomes local council woman in village near Brussels
A Romanian woman has become a local councillor in Saint-Josse, a locality in the Brussels region.
Gabriela Mara, member of the Social Democrat Party (PSD) Belgium, will replace socialist Anne-Sylvie Mouzon, who died last week, according to Agerpres newswire.
The Romanian has been first on the list of replacements for several months.
Mara, 35, also ran in the local elections in October 2012 on the joint list of the Belgian Socialist Party and the Flemish Socialist Party, getting the fourth acting position, with slightly more than 200 votes.
Saint-Josse has one of the highest number of Romanians of villages in Brussels.
Mara has said she hopes to bring real solutions to the Romanians' problems in Belgium.
Saint-Josse-ten-Noode is one of the nineteen municipalities located in the Brussels, the capital region of Belgium.
The municipality had a total population of around 23,000 people in 2007, on an area of 1.4 square kilometers, making it the municipality with the smallest territory and the highest population density in Belgium.
