10 July 2011

Romanian boxer Lucian Bute (in picture) won the boxing match against French Jean Paul Mendy on Saturday evening in Bucharest, through knock out in the fourth round of the game. The boxing gala was organized with the support of Romania's Tourism Ministry, which promoted Romania as a tourist destination during the event. The sponsorship contract reached around EUR 2 million, all covered from European funding dedicated to the promotion of the country's brand.

Lucian Bute, 31, is a Romanian-born French-Canadian professional boxer living and fighting out of Montreal, Canada. Bute is the current IBF Super Middleweight champion. He has a professional record of 29 wins (24 KOs), 0 losses and 0 draws. Bute became the third Romanian professional boxing world champion after Leonard Doroftei and Mihai Leu.
