The number of passengers who transited Bucharest’s airports in the first half of 2015 grew by 12.5% compared to the same period last year, to over 4.2 million. The Bucharest Airports Company could thus reach its target of 9 million passengers for this year, according to the company’s representatives.

The two airports that serve Romania’s capital, namely the Henri Coanda International Airport and the Aurel Vlaicu Airport, recorded over 52,000 takeoffs and landings in the first six months, up 8.7% year-on-year.

In 2014, Bucharest’s two airports saw 8.3 million passengers and over 102,000 landings and takeoffs.

Some 31 airlines currently operate from the Henri Coanda International Airport, the country’s biggest air hub, flying to over 70 destinations. The Aurel Vlaicu Airport is used mainly for private flights.

Romania’s Transport Ministry controls the Bucharest Airports Company, which last year had a turnover of EUR 144 million, a net profit of EUR 22 million, and over 1,200 employees.
