Romanian carmaker Dacia reaches the 5 million mark
Romanian car factory Dacia in Mioveni, next to Pitesti, produced on May 6 its 5 millionth automobile, according to a company announcement. The 5 millionth car is a Dacia Duster 4by4 SUV which will be delivered to a Romanian customer.
Currently, the Duster model represents over 50 percent of the total daily production of the Dacia car plant. The factory in Mioveni is 46 years old. The first Dacia car was produced here in 1968 and it was a Dacia 1100 model under Renault license. Dacia is part of Renault group since 1999.
It took only three years for Dacia to produce another one million vehicles. The 4 million mark was reached in 2011 also with Dacia Duster. The factory in Mioveni has a production capacity of 350,000 auto vehicles a year.
In 2013, 93 percent of the plant’s production went to export. Dacia is one of the strongest Romanian brands and the cars produced in Mioveni are sold all over Europe.
