Romanian central bank: Bank deposits, marked by inequalities

About ten million Romanians have bank deposits, but 40% of them own only RON 21 (EUR 4.6) on average whereas 136 people have average deposits of RON 25.8 million (EUR 5.7 million) in the local banks, according to the report presented yesterday by Liviu Voinea, deputy governor of Romania’s National Bank (BNR).

These 136 people own 2.6% of the value of all deposits, Voinea added, reports local Economica.net.

About two million people have deposits of up to RON 1,000 (EUR 221), with the average deposit amounting to about EUR 88.7. As proportions, 60% of the depositors hold 0.66% of total value of the deposits in local banks and 5% of them account for 73% of the total.

Households' net wealth increased by 7.1% in 2015 compared to the previous year.
