Romanian Central Bank slashes monetary policy rate to 6%

The Romanian Central Bank (BNR) has reduced the key interest rate from 6.25 percent to 6 percent in its latest monetary policy meeting, it has announced. The measure will be enforced from November 3. BNR has also maintained the existing levels of minimum reserve requirement ratios on both RON-denominated and foreign currency-denominated liabilities of credit institutions.

BNR cut the rate from 6.5 percent to 6.25 percent in May last year. In December 2009, the key policy rate was of 8 percent and was gradually decreased throughout 2010.
