Romanian city wants to attract more tourists with its new Fishing Village

11 December 2015

Tulcea, a Romanian city located in the Dobrogea region, has a new tourist objective: the Fishing Village. Tulcea is the gateway to the Danube Delta, one of Romania's most important tourist destinations.

The project, carried out via the 2007-2013 Operational Programme for Fisheries, aims to become an important attraction point for tourists, reports local Agerpres.

The Fishing Village, located outside Tulcea towards Mahmudia commune, will have 11 employees. According to the project’s management team, the village should be open for visitors starting March next year.

The project includes a theme park with three major alleys, which represent the three arms of the Danube river that form the Delta. Constructions specific to the Danube Delta have been built on each of these alleys, such as houses, a fishery, a rural buffet, and wooden windmills.

The “traditional fishing village touristic objective” aims to increase the attractiveness of the area's natural heritage and to raise awareness about the importance of knowing and protecting the natural and cultural patrimony. Its total value amounted to RON 5.39 million (some EUR 1.2 million).
