About 16% of the companies in Romania had no Internet access at the beginning of 2016, according to EU’s statistical office Eurostat.

Romanian firms ranked last in the EU for using the Internet, followed by Greece. Only 3% of the companies in the EU had no Internet connection at the beginning of 2016.

Among the EU companies with Internet access, the vast majority (95%) used the fixed broadband Internet. However, mobile broadband connections have become more common. Some 69% of EU companies used this type of Internet connection in 2016, compared to only 28% in 2010.

In Romania, less than 55% of companies used the fixed broadband Internet last year whereas 43% of local firms used mobile Internet connections.
