Romanian director Adrian Sitaru (in picture) will direct his first film in English, based on the bestseller “Death of a Salaryman” by Fiona Campbell, according to Screen Daily.

The film centers on a 40-year old Japanese family man, who works in a TV corporation but gets fired on his 40th birthday. He meets several weird characters in his new unemployed life, including a salesman with a passion for Elvis Presley and a TV producer who will do anything for success.

Fiona Campbell’s novel is a bestseller that was published in 2007, inspired by her journey to Japan.

The production, which has a budget of GBP 4 million, is a collaboration between Vernon Films ( based in UK ) and 4 Proof Film, the producer of “Best intention” (Din Dragoste cu Cele Mai Bune Intentii) and “Domestic”, both by Adrian Sitaru.

Adrian Sitaru is a director, producer, screenwriter and an actor. His short film “Waves” won a Golden Leopard at the 60th International Film Festival of Locarno, in the summer of 2007.

His debut feature film “Hooked” received two awards at the Film Festival from Salonic 2008, the Jury Prize at the second edition of the Estoril Festival Film in 2008 and also the section prize to New Voices International Film Festival in Palm Springs.

“Best intention” received  the prizes for best director and best actor in a leading role at Locarno International Film Festival last year.
