Romanian director Radu Jude, jury member at Beijing International Film Festival
Romanian director Radu Jude will be a member of the Tiantan Awards’ jury, the main competition of the Beijing International Film Festival.
The event will take place in several locations in Beijing, from April 16 to April 23.
Danish director Bille August will preside the Tiantan Awards’ jury, which will be made of six members, namely French actor Jean Reno, American director Rob Minkoff, Romanian director Radu Jude, Hong Kong director Mabel Cheung, Chinese actress Jiang Wenli, and Italian producer Paolo del Brocco.
Radu Jude is one of the most well known Romanian directors. He directed one of the most awarded Romanian short films of all times, Lampa cu caciula/The tube with a hat, which in 2006 snatched awards at Sundance, San Francisco, Los Angeles, and at many other international competitions.
He won a Silver Bear for the historical drama Aferim! in 2015. His latest feature film Inimi Cicatrizate/Scarred Hearts won the Special Jury Prize at the Locarno International Film Festival in Switzerland last summer.
A total of 15 films were shortlisted for Beijing Film Festival’s Tiantan Awards, including Romanian movie Doua Lozuri/Two Lottery Tickets, directed by Paul Negoescu. According to data from Romania’s National Film Center, the 2016 comedy brought in the highest earnings in 2016 among Romanian releases, with a total of EUR 534,000.
