Romanian-Dutch deal to increase local milk production
Romania and the Netherlands have signed a partnership which aims to increase the local cow milk production destined for processing. Romania aims to reach a production of 2.5 million tons annually by 2020, 2.5 times more compared to last year.
Daniel Botanoiu, a state secretary within Romania’s Agriculture Ministry, said that he hoped that this would be more than a project, and would turn into a strategy for developing the milk sector in Romania. He also talked about the grain and oilseed trade in the Black Sea, which is closely connected to the animal sector.
“We have an atypical situation with big players from Ukraine, Russia and Turkey which don’t respect the rules of good agricultural practice,” said Botanoiu, reports local Capital.ro.
Local products such as milk and meat are sold below production costs, and this situation can’t continue, he added.
