A team of journalists who worked for local daily România Liberă will launch the local edition of the US title Newsweek.

The Romanian edition will have both a print and an online version. It is set to launch mid-April, according to Paginademedia.ro.

The team that is bringing Newsweek to Romania is made up of Sabin Orcan, a former editorial director of România Liberă, Răzvan Chiruţă, the former chief editor of the newspaper, and other journalists who left the daily, News.ro reported.

Other members of the team are Mircea Marian, Silviu Sergiu, Mihai Duţă, Cătălin Prisăcariu, Flavia Drăgan, Ramona Ursu, Petre Bădică, Carmen Dincă, Răzvan Scăeşteanu and Petru Zoltan.

It will published by News International, a company where Sabin Orcan is a majority shareholder, alongside other former members of the România Liberă team.

The 64-page weekly print edition will cover a wide range of subjects through interviews, features and investigations. It will distribute in the Inmedio network, malls and gas stations, Paginademedia.ro reported.

The American weekly title was established in 1933. In 2012 it discontinued the print edition as advertising and subscription revenues declined and production and distribution costs increased. After being acquired by IBT Media in 2013, Newsweek returned to a print edition in 2014. It currently publishes print editions in Japanese, Korean, Polish, Spanish, Arabic, and Turkish, besides the English-language international edition.
