Romanian farmers receive EUR 11 mln from the European Commision

16 September 2015

Romania will receive EUR 11.1 million from the European Commission to support the local farmers. The EC unveiled on Tuesday, September 15, that it would grant EUR 500 million to help European farmers cope with difficulties, especially in the dairy sector.

The Czech Republic will get EUR 11.2 million, Lithuania will receive EUR 12.6 million, and Ireland will get EUR 13.7 million. German farmers will receive the highest amount, of EUR 69.2 million, whereas the farmers from Malta will receive the lowest amount, namely EUR 100,000.

The Russian embargo on agricultural products has had negative impact on the EU markets, as 10% of EU’s agricultural exports reached Russia. Russia reacted to the sanctions adopted by the EU, following the crisis in Ukraine.

At the same time, the dairy market suffers from overproduction worldwide. The increase of production within EU after the removal of the milk quotas on March 31 created imbalances.
