Romanian film awarded at Spanish festival, qualifies for Oscar selection
Romanian film First Night, written and directed by Andrei Tănase, won the grand prize of the international competition section at the Huesca International Film Festival in Spain.
The win allows the Romanian film to enter the preselection for the Oscar awards in the Live Action Short Film section as the Spanish festival is an Oscar-qualifying event, meaning its winners automatically go on the list of films considered for the Oscar nominations.
The Romanian film was noted as being “an honest, complex and impressive story, with a well-structured script and excellent interpretations of the complex fathers-son relations.”
The cast of the film includes young actors Alfredo Minea and Cristiana Luca, alongside well-known ones Mimi Brănescu and Elvira Deatcu.
The film previously won the Minister of Fine Arts Promotion Prize at the 29th edition of Filmfest Dresden - International Short Film Festival, and was selected in the Orizzonti short film competition at the Venice Film Festival.
