Romanian firm targets top managers and expats with health services package

24 February 2015

Romanian health services firm Intermedicas aims to attract 600 to 800 new clients every year with a recently launched health program exclusively tailored for top management and expatriates working in Romania.

Intermedicas, which is controlled by four Romanian entrepreneurs, is the first medical second opinion provider in Romania. This means that the firm facilitates local clients’ access to Romanian and foreign doctors and health clinics for second opinions on their diagnosis. The clinic offers medical consultations provided by visiting doctors from Germany, UK, France and other countries.

“Through this program we anticipated both the needs of the expatriates and the top management. It was created especially for career people who don’t have the time to read lots of pages of contractual terms, people who do not speak Romanian, and people who need fast access to the best doctors in Romania and abroad,” said Ana Maria Marian, CEO of Intermedicas.

A former manager of local private healthcare provider Regina Maria, she is also one of Intermedicas’ shareholders. Two other former manager of Regina Maria, Ioana Elisei and Sergiu Negut, and Intermedicas’ founder Dan Mitrea are the other partners.

Some 50 people come to Intermedicas for such services each month, most of them asking for a second opinion on the diagnosis of cancer, neurological diseases, orthopaedics and paediatrics. These services currently generate some 60% of the company’s business, which last year amounted to EUR 400,000, a 50% increase over 2013.

Intermedicas plans to maintain the 50% growth rate in 2015 and reach a turnover of EUR 600,000. The company is now focusing more on services for top managers.

The package for top managers and expatriates includes Personal Health Assistant (PHA), Second Opinion, special services for elder people (parents/grandparents of the top managers) as well as a solution for maximizing the advantages of the international health insurances or the subscriptions to Romanian private clinics.

The service includes an English speaking health assistant guiding the client from the first contact until the problem is solved, even when hospital care is needed. Clients also get permanent access to doctors in Romania, Europe, the USA and Japan, either for telephone medical advice or priority appointments.
