Romanian football team CFR Cluj gets EUR 18.4 mln from UEFA
Romanian football team CFR Cluj received EUR 18.4 million for its participation in the Champions League last edition. This is the largest amount ever received by a team of Romania from participating in the European Cups.
CFR Cluj ranked 4th in Champions League’s Group E with four points, the group that also included Bayern Munchen, AS Roma and FC Basel. The amount received by CFR Cluj from UEFA consists in the bonus of EUR 3.9 million for participation, the same for all teams, the bonus EUR 3.3 million for matches, the same for all teams, the performance bonus of EUR 1.2 million, and the market pool of EUR 10 million.
The previous record belonged to the Romanian Unirea Urziceni football team, which received a total of EUR 18.18 million.
Other European clubs received more. The highest amount went to Manchester United, some EUR 53 million, followed by FC Barcelona, with EUR 51 million, then came the reward for Chelsea, some EUR 44.5 million. See the full UEFA Champions League distribution to clubs here.
