Romanian football team CFR Cluj to take on Manchester United in Champions League match
Manchester United are playing Romanian team CFR Cluj tomorrow (October 2 ) in the group stage of the UEFA Champions League. The match will be played in Cluj and will be the first time the two teams have met. CFR manager Ioan Andone, who played for Romania in the 1990 World Cup said, “It is an honor to play against a team like Manchester United. It is not about the fact that we were excited about this fixture or not, it's all about the fact that we are going to play against a great team, maybe the biggest team which exists,” quoted by BBC Sport.
Both teams won their opening group stage matches; Manchester United beat Turkish team Galatasaray 1 – 0, while CFR Cluj defeated Portuguese team SC Braga 3 – 0 and so lead Group H on goal difference. It was a great start for for the Romanian team, but with only two teams from the group to go through to the next stage, there is still a long way to go. As well as former Champions League winners Manchester United, Cluj must face Galatasaray, another strong team with a good record in European football.
Manchester United will be hoping to put the disappointment of last year's European campaign behind them, when they were knocked out in the group stage of the Champions League – a very poor result by United's standards. Cluj's players have some experience in European football and although they haven't made a great start in the domestic league, they won their most recent match in emphatic style against Gloria Bistrita 5 – 1.
The match will be broadcast on October 2 on TVR 1 and online at www.tvrp
