Romanian gas producer Romgaz looks at wild boars, turtles to prepare for winter
Romanian gas producer Romgaz also analyzes animal behavior when making forecasts for the winter, according to Vasile Ciolpan, the company’s commercial director.
“For example, when the birds’ migration starts, (we look at) how deep the turtle makes its burrow, and how fat are the wild boars on the eve of the winter,” he said during a conference, reports local Adevarulfinanciar.ro.
According to him, the data available shows that this winter will be cold and long.
Romgaz Medias is a strategic company, as it covers almost half of Romania’s gas consumption. The company also has to prepare gas reserves for winter to cover for temporary spikes in consumption due to cold weather.
According to Ciolpan, Romgaz currently has 2.3 billion cubic meters of gas in underground deposits, more than the 1.8 billion cubic meters legally requested by the Energy Regulatory Authority ANRE.
